Are you enjoying some fun summertime activities? It really has been a great year for sunshine and mosquitoes. We are headed out for some camping early this month and I am hoping to actually turn off my phone!

What a forgotten concept! It used to be that when you went camping (or anywhere) you could unplug…no wait, you weren’t actually plugged in to begin with, you just drove away from the phone jack and presto…no more phone calls! No one could reach you and the planet didn’t implode. Oh right, that would still be the case. Lately I just can’t stop longing for the days when we didn’t have an expectation to work 80 hours a week and always return phone calls, text messages and emails in under 15 minutes. When you could have the weekend off to hang around or sleep in and didn’t have to get up earlier and go to bed later just to get everything done in a day. Ah bliss…

So, we’re off on a wilderness adventure. We will do some actual camping at a lake with no power, no plumbing, no hot water, no refrigeration, no screens, no amenities, no camp fires due to extreme forest fire warnings in the area and last time I checked, no reservation as I missed the opening day of campsite season and so the whole campground is booked solid to September 10th. Doh!

But in this case, I am OK with our situation. The uncertain nature of this over-sight has me cautiously excited about the possibilities of our circumstance. Sometimes, in the past, these little hiccups have turned into quite amazing adventures and we are happily surprised by the outcome. If not, hopefully we will be able to laugh about it in the future.

The main thing is that it will be a rare occasion that we are all together at the same time ( including extended family members) in many instances (I am sure) with a fake smile pasted on our faces trying not to out-passive-aggressive one another through a week without all the usual comforts and distractions. Sounds like a hoot…

Someone find me my phone!

Happy Days!
