I know this is the month of my favorite holiday but there is another celebration this month involving turkey and excess. Yes, Thanksgiving my friends. I do look forward to the feast this weekend inspires and go to great lengths to prepare all the family favorites to appease the hungry hordes. But, the sentiment of this day is generally lost on all of us by the time the last dish is washed and put away.

Let’s face it, life can be a struggle and sometimes it is very hard to find things to appreciate beyond, ‘yay, I woke up today’. So, I started to think about what I am thankful for and I was surprised to find that I do in fact have a few items that are worth celebrating;

1. I am thankful I am not Donald Trump.

2. I am thankful I know which of the 4 remotes turns on the Netflix.

3. I am thankful I can’t afford Botox (not that I have any desire for cosmetic enhancement but I have heard people with money sometimes make questionable choices. See #1)

4. I am thankful it isn’t 1914, 1939 or 1653 for that matter. (the beginnings of World Wars 1, 2 and Cromwell’s reign) also these are an arbitrary selection of unspeakably horrible epic human failure. Any similar events throughout history can be exchangeable here. (See also #1)

5. I am thankful I can turn on the computer, open my email and perform the basic skills this technology demands.

6. I am thankful I still have all my teeth.

7. Speaking of teeth, I am thankful for potato chips.

8. I am also thankful for bourbon, vodka, scotch, wine and rum. And tequila.

9. I am thankful for my great friends, clients and family and their collective sense of humour and patience…with me.

10. I am thankful that there are no YouTube videos out there of me when I was 15 rocking 80’s hair, shoulder pads and giant glasses and they were tinted and they had my initials in the corner…sigh

11. Truly, I am so incredibly thankful there was no YouTube when I was young….can I get an Amen!

Actually, that’s a pretty good list.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and have a safe and Happy Halloween.

It’s Spooky Time.
