I am the first to admit I sometimes go on…and on with issues that stick in my craw but I would like to use this month’s post to rant about another important message that I think is worth sharing and most definitely rant-worthy (don’t worry, it’s a good thing).

The beauty of friendship.

What is a friend? Here’s what a Google search returned;

friend

NOUN

  1. a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically exclusive of sexual or family relations.

Mutual affection.  How do you have and grow mutual affection for another person?  Especially when you consider you started out as strangers?  Maybe something in common starts the conversation…Mom in the playground, cubicle-mate, shared experience.  From there friendship is like a plant, it grows; sometimes fast, sometimes slow and branches out with every aspect of your personalities that compliments and/or challenges one another.  And then one day it’s there, full bloom and it is, at its best; safe, comforting and reliable – beautiful.

Sometimes it is taken for granted, sometimes it is abused, sometimes it sits quietly for years without being used. But it is still magic. On the day it is called upon to help, listen, cry, soothe or laugh, it will be restorative, transformative, a blessing.

In my life, many people have come in and out over the years, sometimes it’s distance, mostly it’s just life happening for us all.  I treasure all of you past and present. I send you all peace, happiness and a secret wish that we re-connect again in the future.

To all the wonderful friends in my life right now.  Thank you! It has been an adventure of  silliness, thoughtful education, paralysing sorrow, occasional despair, but most of all (believe it or not) joy.  Extreme, un-mitigated, un-embellished joy.

I was told recently that human beings need only two things (I guess three if you consider water.  Actually maybe it was the human psyche needs two things.  So much for ‘thoughtful education’)

Anyway, we need to feel love or that we can be loved and that we are appreciated.

I love you.

I appreciate you.

With all my heart.
